The Best International Polo Clubs According to Lorraine Lisette
Lorraine Lisette Ai Lie is 29 years old and is truly a global citizen. Hailing from a mixed family, traveling was always a part of her life and has been lucky enough to call Barcelona, New York, Bangkok, Amsterdam and Spain her home. Currently she is living in Sotogrande, Spain, and wherever life has taken her, her love of horses has remained front and center.
Her auntie Nunthinee Tanner is the co-founder of the Thai Polo and Equestrian Club, which is where her interest in polo began and was fostered while she was living in Bangkok for work.
Starting a new sport is never easy, and if you ask any athlete in any sport, there is always room for improvement, and they will be quick to tell you that one must invest hours and hours into practicing. Lorraine still considers her a beginner, but emphatically states that, “when you start polo riding you will never choose another horse-riding sport. It’s addictive!” Mr. M would agree, as he is dedicated to mastering the sport as well and has spent countless hours during quarantine on the polo field with a mallet in his hand.
Playing polo and becoming involved in the international equestrian world has been her passport to seeing incredible places, watching matches with the top polo players in the most incredible locations, but her aunties polo club remains her favorite, with their robust and fabulous event calendar. Another favorite polo club is her current home club, Dos Lunas Polo & Dressage Club in Sotogrande, Spain. It is a club, “in the middle of a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains where the horses walk free.”
As for her enviable equestrian style, “My favorite places to get polo gear will probably be Cavalier for the helmets, and I got my mallet bag from De Brune. But for sure the best to get your gear is from Argentina. I never got the chance to go myself, but I cannot wait to one day and will definitely be making a few purchases!”
