A Gentleman Always Orders Red

There’s a few things that I believe a true Gentleman should refrain from during the summer. Most of these refer to hygiene and general style, like my no flip flops rule, but there is one that often comes as a surprise. I believe a Gentleman should always drink red wine, even in the summer.

Now, this is not to say that men aren’t allowed to drink champagne or rose aboard a Riva Aquarama cruising Lake Como with your lovely. But - it’s important to always have a great bottle of red wine available. Contrary to popular belief, red wine is versatile and there’s a multitude of grapes for ever occasion. Some, like Pinot Noirs, are meant to be sipped at the beginning of an evening, while fuller wines like a Cabernet can close out a meal. Then, there’s vintage wines, like the 1976 Chateau Margaux, which is more celebratory than a bottle of Dom P and always bring about the unexpected.  The vintage bottle previously mentioned was lavishly decanted the night I first met my wife, and by bottle, I mean bottles.

Like I said, a Gentleman always offers a red as an option, even in the summer. If you’ve yet to find the perfect red for your summer palette, I recommend the below bottles which are offered in a variety of price-points and availability.
