Your Summer Travel Itinerary - According to Your Recreational Habit
With global restrictions lifted for travel and events and the warmer months arriving, we have been eagerly anticipating a fabulous summer. But we got to thinking, why not merge our favorite sporting events with our summer travel itinerary within the United States and Internationally. We love a great museum, but some of the best cultural experiences happen when you find yourself cheering in the crowds for a common player, rider, or driver, entertaining rivalries, and enjoying the old-time traditions of the given event.
Below we have outlined your perfect summer travel itinerary that hits all the best and most iconic sporting events of the season!
May 7th, 2022
The Kentucky Derby
Churchill Downs, Louisville, Kentucky
The sports social circuit for the summer kicks off with the first jewel of the Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby, on May 7th! A day filled with mint juleps, adrenalin, fabulous fashion and beautiful horses is the perfect occasion to greet your summer wardrobe. While being present in the stands is highly recommended for the premium authentic experience as it is the highest attended race in North America, if you cannot make it to Kentucky this year, you can host a viewing party with your friends at home and still feel a part of the action.
May 21st, 2022
The Preakness Stakes
Baltimore, Maryland
The second jewel of the Triple Crown follows quickly after the Kentucky Derby, so if your bet went stale a few weeks earlier, now is your opportunity to place new bets and see who will win the 1.5m purse!
May 22 - June 5th, 2022
Ronald Garros aka The French Open
Paris, France
As the saying goes, ‘Paris is always a good idea’, and especially in the warmer months! Roland Garros falls perfectly in the period where Paris is not filled with the summer tourists yet but the gardens are beautiful and the weather is warm. The French Open is the only Grand Slam played on a clay court and famous for its red brick dust color. It is the ideal excuse to eat crepes, visit Paris and watch world-class tennis.
May 29th, 2022
Monaco Grand Prix,
Circuit de Monaco, Monte Carlo
The Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix is arguably the chicest and most exclusive and prestigious sporting events of the year. The race circuit winds through the stunning streets of Monte Carlo as onlookers view from their yachts and beautiful balconies, but temporary grandstands are placed around the city for us mere pedestrians. It is the ultimate event to spot the who’s who of the rich and famous.
June 10-18, 2022
Rolex Giraglia
Saint Tropez – Giraglia – Genova
The Rolex Giraglia is one of the most premiere regattas in the world with the race starting in France and ending in Italy! It brings together more than 100 boats and hundreds of sailors and spectators since 1953. Sip and see on the beautiful Mediterranean sea as you witness a historic race on beautiful sailing yachts.
June 11th, 2022
The Belmont Stakes
Elmont, New York
The Belmont Stakes, aka the Run for Carnations, is the final jewel in the Triple Crown and a perfect day adventure for those living in and around New York City! It is the longest race of all three, at 1.5 miles long, and the winning horse is adorned with white carnations. It is where horses come to compete to be champions and legends. It is only a 30 minute taxi or Uber from NYC or an hour and a half via subway.
June 16 - 19th, 2022
US Open Golf,
Brookline, Massachusetts
The US Open Golf Tournament changes locations every year keeping its competitors and viewers on their toes for new and challenging courses. This year the competition lands at The Country Club, one of the oldest golf courses in the United States, located in Brookline, Massachusetts. PS: It is also Father’s Day weekend if you don’t bring him along, maybe get him a souvenir if he is a golf fan!
June 27 - July 10th, 2022
Wimbledon
London, England
Every year around this time our hankering for strawberries and cream consume our thoughts, because this iconic tennis tournament is synonymous with the traditional dish that has been served to Wimbledon guests since 1877. At the grass court Grand Slam you will be sure to spot royals, and your favorite British celebrities in the stands sipping Pimm’s. Plan a trip to London around this event and have a truly regal time.
July 1 - 24th, 2022
Tour de France
France
The annual bicycle race which takes place throughout the month of July between roughly 20 teams with eight riders each. Realistically, the race is much better to watch and follow on the television but as a casual supporter and viewer, we recommend being in Paris for the day of the race as the competitors race down the famous Champs-Élysées in the heart of the city. Notoriously difficult for its cobblestone surface, the three-jet flyover performed by the French Air Force painting the sky in the colors of the French flag and the riders racing over the finish line is definitely a bucket list moment you will want to experience.
July 14 - 17th, 2022
The British Open
The Old Course, St. Andrews, Scotland
Looking for the perfect excuse to experience Scotland and their rich history during the most beautiful time of year?! This is the ideal opportunity. Stay in a castle, enjoy scenic hikes, play a round of golf in its motherland and so much more while also enjoying the British Open as a spectator and watching some of your favorite golfers conquer the oldest golf tournament in the world.

Love horses and have a desire to visit one of the most colorful and beautiful countries in Europe, this is your excuse to book your plane ticket! Watch world-class equestrians compete at the major international championships which only occur every four years. Don’t miss the chance to attend the event this summer or you will have to wait another four years for it to come around.
August 28 - September 4th, 2022
The Hampton Classic
Bridgehampton, NY
If you are looking to stay within the United States but still want to partake in the horse world’s fabulous fun, the Hampton Classic is definitely the ticket for you. It is one of the largest outdoor horse shows in America and garners international attention and riders. The see and be seen event of the horse show is on Grand Prix Sunday where the top riders jump their way to glory and a huge winners purse.
August 29th - September 11th, 2022
US Open Tennis
New York, NY
The US Open tennis tournament makes the summer coming to an end a little less bittersweet and serves almost as a welcome back to NYC for those that travel throughout the summer months. Just a quick car or subway ride from the city, spectators can enjoy day matches but we highly recommend securing tickets to a night match! There is nothing more exciting than watching the best tennis players in the world dual it out under the stadium lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
