Serena Williams’ Best On Court Fashion Moments

As the Queen of the court enters the final Grand Slam of her career, we take a walk down memory lane of her best on-court looks! From her pre-professional career to the iconic Puma era that perfectly meshes court style and y2k, to her colorful and unapologetic Nike period, we could all learn a lot from her outfit choices. First and foremost being that wearing hoops is always a good idea and being a wallflower in life and in style won’t get you Grand Slam wins or style articles written about you.

1992

Long before the big sponsorships and grand slam wins, young Serena Williams was a fashion icon in the making, hitting with a Wilson racquet and sporting a cute matching floral two-piece on the court.

1992

It’s the matching classic Reebok graphic sets for Serena, Venus and their father Richard, that make this family photo a favorite.

1999

Welcome to Serena’s Puma era! Williams, who was 16 at the time, landed her first endorsement with the sportswear brand in 1998 and continued to work with them until 2003.

2001

Wearing a yellow and navy Puma outfit, note the matching shoes, it’s her long braid on braid hairstyle that we are obsessed with that she wore during the sixth annual Arthur Ashe Kids’s Day, at the USTA National Tennis Centre.

2002

The dress, the knee-high socks, the matching shoes… need we say more?!

2004

After signing with Nike in 2004, she debuted her first Nike dress at the Nasdaq-100 Open! Her contract at this time was rumored to be around $55 million for a 5 year deal.

2004

Tutu-style skirt, pink collared top and fringe leather panels on her shoes, what is there not to love about Williams’ pink and white outfit during the WTA Tour Championships Tournament?!

2004

Roland Garros is played on red brick dust and her hot pink zip-up top and dark pink shorts, a matching headband and hoop earrings, perfectly paired with the orange hues.

2004

Serena Williams wore a denim mini skirt and hoops on the court, so we went out and bought a denim mini skirt and hoops for the court! Some people may say, ‘denim? for tennis?’, we say, ‘added to cart’.

2006

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend and Serena wearing a modern version of a tennis necklace is serving us (pun intended) with on-court glamour that she paired with a graphic dress at the US Open.

2012

While playing at the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships Tennis in Istanbul, Serena Williams wore an outfit paying homage to the US flag, instantly making it an American classic.

2013

When your office is on the court, of course Serena Williams added a Nike blazer to her warm-up outfit at Wimbledon. But make sure to note her fun orange manicure that has flames and lightning bolt motifs!

2014

A pink leopard dress, leopard sweatbands and pink ankle braces is the perfect look for the strongest cat on the court at the US Open. Nike’s leopard print style became known as the ‘Serena’.

2017

The two-toned paneling on the skirt, paired with contrasting compression sleeves makes this sleek styling an absolutely timeless moment for Williams at the ASB Classic.

2018

How could we not include the memorable Virgil Abloh x Nike tutu dress that she wore during the US Open?!

2018

Looking like an on court Catwoman, at the French Open, Serena Williams wore a black catsuit with a red waistband that accentuated her tiny waist as she marked her return to the court after giving birth to her daughter.

2020

Orange you glad we included this number in our roundup?! Williams rocked an orange long-sleeved dress for her first match of 2020 and now we need to go purchase an orange tennis dress asap.

2021

Nike unitard – with one full-length and one bike-short length leg?! Yes, please! Why? Because who else could pull off such an iconic and unique fit other than the Queen of on-court style herself.

We can’t wait to see what she wears during her final tournament as a tennis professional at this years, U.S. Open Championship that begins Monday, August 29th, 2022!
