RH Weekend Guide to Cape Cod

A weekend getaway to Cape Cod is just what the soul needs after this long and arduous winter, but when planning your trip, it can be hard to know what is exactly a must see and what is a miss when your weekend time is limited. For us, our must sees/ dos always involve lobster, antiquing, and soaking in the sun and a great book on the beach. Still feeling overwhelmed by options, we have narrowed it down for you and given you an exact itinerary including where to stay, eat, shop and beach, so all you have to do is get going and enjoy!

Where to stay

Wequassett Resort and Golf Club is a beautiful hotel that embodies the classic charm of Cape Cod. Enjoy the eastern seashore from your beautiful suite or villa and charter a boat to take you to other beautiful locations along the Cape and to adjacent historic villages. The resort also offers its guests world class tennis facilities, swimming lessons and watercraft rentals, but possibly the best perk is that guests of the hotel can play a round of golf at one of the most prestigious golf clubs in the nation, Cape Cod National Golf Club.

It is truly the perfect hotel for you and your family to unwind and have fun!

Friday

So, it is summer Friday, and your workday and week finally has come to an early end at 1pm. Yes, summer Fridays are still a thing even during a pandemic, it has been a stressful year and we deserve every extra minute of peace and relaxation we can get. *The best RH tip we can give you about maximizing your Friday, is to pack and be ready to leave on Thursday night. If you’re driving from Boston to the Cape, expect to hit the weekend traffic. We recommend taking the ferry from Boston or flying directly into Barnstable Municipal Airport (HYA) in Hyannis, MA.

You have finally arrived at Cape Cod! Let’s dance, laugh and blow off some steam by enjoying a lively night in Provincetown. If you get there before the stores close, check out The Captain’s Daughters, a cute boutique known for their amazing selection of fine teas, elevated souvenirs, and artwork by locals. It is known for its fabulous cabaret shows and great music. Enjoy an upscale dinner and incredible view at the Lobster Pot, or if you are looking for a more relaxed vibe, check out the Chatham Pier Fish Market, a casual and traditional seafood shack on the water!

Saturday

Time to hit the beach! Chatham has many beautiful beaches for you to choose from if you want to explore beyond the resort, and we like to get there early and scope out the best spot on the beach before everyone else. We recommend waking up early, grabbing breakfast to go and eating it on the beach. The best grab and go breakfast spot is Chatham Perk, but if you are looking to sit down we highly recommend stopping by the Chatham Filling Station for a stack of pancakes diner style!

If the beach isn’t calling your name, or if after a few hours you want a change of scenery, we recommend visiting the famous Chatham Light lighthouse and wandering the oceanside cliffs. You can also take a stroll through the town of Chatham and do a little shopping. We love to stop into Kahn Fine Antiques when in the area, they always have beautiful and unique finds from vintage bookends, to clocks and plates, that remind us of our time spent on the Cape the rest of the year.

If you are feeling exhausted from a full day of fun in the sun, the Wequassett Resort has very delicious restaurants on the premise. We recommend the hotel’s cozy Thoreau's restaurant. Check in with the concierge who can help to arrange a reservation. If you would like to go out for dinner and want to mix it up and eat some sushi? You should, because Bluefins Sushi & Sake Bar is absolutely divine and serves the freshest fish on the Cape, but we do love to have pre-dinner drinks at the Wequassett Resorts hotel bar, LiBAYtion.

Sunday

Before the Sunday scaries set in, it is time for some retail therapy! Go and explore the gorgeous little town of Hyannis and spend the day wandering through restaurants and beautiful antique shops. If antiquing is of interest stroll down Route 6A; you cannot miss the Sandwich Antique Center, which has over 5,000 square feet of collectibles, antiques, fine art, jewelry, and other hidden gems.

Hyannis is also home to the Kennedy Compound, which is unfortunately not open to the public but a fun fact. If you are interested in learning about Kennedy history there is a JFK Museum that you can visit while you are roaming the streets and channeling Jackie O energy.

You can also decide to skip town and hit the water to experience the thrill and owe of whale watching! We highly recommend Dolphin Fleet Whale Watching company that does tours for roughly 3 to 4 hours, where lunch is provided, and it is lead by highly educated naturalists who will guide and teach you about the beautiful marine animals along the East Coast. Be ready to spot whales, dolphins, and a wide array of other wildlife.
