An Ode To Prince Philip’s Recreational Habits
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was a member of the British royal family and the husband to Queen Elizabeth II. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather who passed away peacefully at the age of 99 on April 9, 2021.
Prince Philip was born into Greek and Danish royal families and after his family was exiled from Greece when he was just 18 months old, went on to live and study in France, England and Germany. When he joined the British Royal Navy at the age of 18 in 1939 and served in the Second World War. In 1947 he gave up his royal titles and began using his grandparents surname, Mountbatten, until he married Elizabeth II later that year, who was not yet Queen. His wife, Elizabeth II would become queen in 1952 and in 1957 he was granted the title of a British Prince.
Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II were married for 74 years, and had four children, 8 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He spent his life dedicated to his wife, family and country. When he was not on official duty, he was often participating in his favorite recreational habits such as playing polo, sailing, shooting skeet, carriage racing, playing cricket, and flying.
