June Moods: Cowgirl Glamour

There’s something wild in the air and it starts with the cowgirl. While the origin of cowgirl style is one of practicality and durability, the wardrobe influence has shifted into something over-the-top and slightly out of this world. Think rhinestone sparkles, fringe, colorful prints and of course, the ever-important star motif all of which is a culmination of an 8 year old girls fantasy closet and a modern woman’s rebellion. So, whether you’re familiar with horses, or your experiences is limited to a petting zoo, we bet you’ll fall in love with cowgirl style too.

It would be impossible to discuss the impact of cowgirl style in mainstream pop culture without highlighting Mary J Blige’s hard to miss style in the early 90’s. Channeling her early childhood in Georgia, Blige made it a point to represent her “American” style whenever she was abroad. Other southern raised artists like Beyonce and Solange Knowles channeled their Texas influence into their music (Note: “Daddy Said Shoot” such a good song!) and performance style. The icons were globally recognized and pushed the Cowgirl style further into mainstream culture.

With brands like Pyer Moss, Area, and Brandon Maxwell (and a plethora of others!) paying homage to the original cowboys, it’s no brainer that fashion brands and magazines have made the style a recognizable influence in our generation. Although Cowgirl Glam style has evolved from the Marlboro Man into a Gen-Z fantasy of photo filters and glitter, we can’t help but love it nonetheless.
